Introduction:
I am a board-certified family doctor with 25 years of practice
experience and I believe you can learn to enjoy life while
improving your health.

I call this concept PRO-vention and it is the basis of my book: “ HEALTH YOURSELF: THE CANDY, BOOZE, AND SEX PRESCRIPTION” In this newsletter I will provide you with information, products, and services that can add pleasure and enjoyment to your life and improve your health as well.

The book, website, and newsletter are organized into three sections: PANTRY PREVENTION that features information on how foods can be not only enjoyable but healthy as well. The PLEASURABLE PURSUITS section tells you how to spend your time doing things that add zing to your life and improve your health and help you live a longer and happier life. In POSITIVE PASSIONS you will find out how to harness the power of your emotions and attitudes to positively impact your life and health. To order your copy of “Health Yourself: The Candy Booze and Sex Prescription” visit the website www.healthyourselves.com

In this Issue:
1.Pantry Prevention: Grazing- eat early and often; 20 minute Diet
Trick; "D"-crease your chances of cancer
2.. Pleasurable Pursuits: Bedroom Romps Protect Your Heart
3.Positive Passions: Be Happy-live Longer

1.PANTRY PREVENTION :

GRAZING-Eat early and Often In an earlier issue we discussed the benefits of starting the day by eating breakfast regularly. You can achieve several other
health benefits such as weight loss, lower cholestrol levels, and higher energy levels by grazing or eating smaller amounts several times a day rather than following the traditional "3- Squares a day" routine. Runners World magazine (April 2002) reports a study that showed lower bad cholesterol levels for middle-aged and older adults who "grazed" compared to those who ate one or two large meals a day.

20 MINUTE DIET TRICK
According to MEN'S HEALTH (April 2002) it takes your stomach 20 minutes to get the message to your brain that you are full. If you stop after eating 80% of what you planned to eat and wait 20 minutes- your brain will tell you that you are full and you can easily avoid hundreds of calories a day and feel completely satisfied!

"D-CREASE YOUR CHANCE OF CANCER
We have mentioned before how Vitamin D keeps your bones strong but according to a report in MEN'S HEALTH(March 2002)it may also reduce your chances of developing cancer of the colon and prostate. Exposure to sunlight provides Vitamin D as do foods such as cereal, milk, fish and eggs. 16 oz. of skim milk (fat free) or 2 oz. of salmon supply a full days' requirements.

“"Not less than two hours per day should be devoted to exercise."-
Thomas Jefferson

2. Pleasurable Pursuits

Bedroom Romps Protect Your Heart British Researchers studied 1000 men age 45-59 for over 20 years and found that those who had sex at least twice a week lived longer while their less amorous counterparts(once a month or less) were more likely to drop dead from heart disease. So remember.... it's doctors orders and heart healthy!

To perk up the quality and quantity of your love life I prescribe "The Great American Sex Diet" audio program by Laura Corn. She shares some great ideas for spicing up your love life and the tape is fairly tame and tastefully done. It's good for your heart and cheaper than Viagra. APRIL SPECIAL : Order your copy this month for $22 and I will pay the shipping. Order by email:DrKen@healthyourselves.com

3. POSITIVE PASSIONS:

According to experts at Johns Hopkins University you can reduce your chances of heart attack and stroke by up to 50% by having a positive outlook on life. If you combine this with having sex at least twice a week... you will live a long and happy life and die from something other than heart trouble and with a smile on your face.
