1.PANTRY PREVENTION :

Breakfast Benefits My Uncle Doo-Dad described himself as a "light-eater":
He said"When it gets light- I start eating." Many of us do not follow his example as we often down a cup of coffee and a muffin in the car or skip breakfast altogether. Researchers at Baylor Medical School found that people who eat breakfast have healthier body weights and better mental functioning. Other studies have shown that eating breakfast leads to a better emotional outlook and lowers your risk for depression.

Nothing to Sneeze at: Springtime means blooms, pollen and allergy symptoms for many of us.Taking over-the-counter and prescription medications can reduce the symptoms but can also produce unwanted side effects such as drowsiness. According to an article in the April 2002 edition of Runners World you may protect yourself against allergy and asthma symptoms and avoid side effects by eating certain foods. Apples contain antioxidants that improve lung function and offer protection against respiratory disease. Omega-3 fats (found in Canola oil and cold-water fish such as tuna and salmon) can alleviate allergy symptoms.

Run Towards Health Warmer weather means the opportunity for more outdoor activities and running and walking should be at the top of your list. These activities require a minimum of equipment and have many health benefits including protection from the top causes of death and disability: Cancer, Heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. A regular routine of waqlking or running will also improve your sleep, your mental alertness, and your sex life! Go For it!

3.Positive Passions:

Stressed Spelled Backwards Stressed spelled backwards is desserts. Philip Lefebvre tells of an experience we've all had when faced with the choice of denial or indulgence(Utne Reader March 2002):

" ...if you stand in front of the pastry case at the coffee shop and calculate the calories in your head trying to figure out if a chocolate chip cookie is going to show up on your hips, you are actually doing more damage to your heart from the stress than if you simply ate the damn cookie and allowed yourself to experience the joy of it. You do realize that happiness and self-acceptance
are hundreds of times better for you than stresssful self denial, right?"

Stress is a major cause of high blood pressure and is a worse risk factor than cholesterol. Aspirin has officially been proclaimed to be a key factor in preventing first time heart attacks and other serious heart problems. Give Yourself the Finger (Test)

A South African doctor has proven that a high ratio of length of the index finger compared to the ring finger is associated with having a heart attack at an early age. Dr. Manning says this measurement can be made at an early
age(even before birth) to identify people at high risk for a heart attack. (Family Practice News July 15, 2001)
